Bin 41 is an awesome wine shop located in West Seattle- I had the pleasure of meeting Jon McNamara, one of the owner's of Bin 41 at a wine dinner I attended last week and learned of an upcoming tasting at the Bin! On Thursday September 2, 2010 Bin 41 played host to 6 Washington winemakers in honor of what was known as #Cabernet day. You have probably read what columnists for some of the top wine magazines — WINE SPECTATOR, DECANTER, to name a couple — have written about abandoning Bordeaux. While they admit that the best red Bordeaux still set the standard for red wines around the world, especially Cabernet Sauvignons, they claim they are just too expensive. I wonder what took them so long to figure that out, especially since over the years they have contributed to the price escalation with their high points and lavish praise.

True, those writers occasionally admit there are some good quality Bordeaux to be had at the lower end of the  price spectrum but their consensus is that they don’t really match up to other red wines from other regions or other countries. No need to buy them, they’ve been saying.

Years ago I stopped buying top growth Bordeaux. I could not compete with the new markets in China, Japan, and India nor with the corporate collectors in America.
